Why We Invest in Iran

With a population of 83 million and a median age of 31 years, Iran is perhaps the world’s most significant consumer market largely untapped by international investors. A middle-income country with significant growth potential, investing in consumer-focused sectors in Iran offers returns that can compete with those of the most feted frontier and emerging markets. Iran’s population is highly urbanised—73% of Iranians live in cities. With the expansion of modern retail and e-commerce platforms, the consumer sector in Iran has a strong growth outlook, hinging on the favorable spending behaviors of the Iranian middle class.

Iran may be best-known as a major oil producer, but it has a robust manufacturing, agricultural, and services sectors that contribute to economic resilience and provide gainful employment for a workforce of approximately 27 million. Like with most frontier and emerging markets, investing in Iran can be complex. But with the right team and right targets it can also prove immensely rewarding.
